Garūta’s Piano Concerto Debuts Outside Latvia in Avignon

This marks its premiere performance outside of Latvia. The concert is based on a newly crafted edition of the sheet music, produced in collaboration with the Latvian Music Information Center / SKANI.

"Au Crépuscule"

ABOUT THE CONCERT

A contemporary of Shostakovich, Lūcija Garūta perfected her skills in France in the second half of the 1920s before becoming the leader of Latvian music. Very virtuoso, his concerto is an initiatory journey crowned by a passionate cadence. The final confession of a composer who has always been prey to existential unease and who disappears a few days after the creation, Tchaikovsky’s “Pathétique” Symphony is made up of four painful episodes ending in dejection and nothingness. A drama that leaves performers and listeners speechless.
