Lūcija Garūta | Sacred Love

2023, LMIC
Māris Skuja • Jūlija Vasiļjeva
This album highlights Lūcija Garūta’s unique musical vision, deeply rooted in Latvian traditions yet reaching towards global influences. Often compared to Germaine Tailleferre of Les Six, Garūta was drawn to French musical trends and studied in Paris with renowned musicians such as Alfred Cortot, Isidor Philipp, and Paul Dukas. Her work, shaped by these experiences, played a vital role in Latvian chamber music. As poet Zenta Mauriņa described, Garūta’s music has a celestial quality, lifting the listener beyond the earthly towards the stars.
